What is the difference between polyamide fiber and polyester fiber
July 28, 2025

Strength and wear resistance

Polyamide fiber: excellent wear resistance (better than polyester), good elasticity, but easy to age and become brittle when exposed to ultraviolet light for a long time.

Polyester fiber: high strength, better wrinkle resistance and shape retention, but slightly weaker wear resistance than nylon.

Hygroscopicity

Polyamide fiber: slightly better hygroscopicity than polyester (nylon regain is about 4%~5%), but still a hydrophobic fiber.

Polyester fiber: poor hygroscopicity (moisture regain is only about 0.4%), easy to generate static electricity, and may be stuffy when worn.

Heat resistance

Polyamide fiber: low softening point (nylon 6 is about 180°C, nylon 66 is about 220°C), easy to shrink and melt at high temperature.

Polyester fiber: better heat resistance (melting point is about 250~260°C), strong stability at high temperature, suitable for heat setting process.
